Office 365 Message Encryption
Office 365 Message Encryption (OME) allows you to send encrypted email to people outside our organization, regardless of the destination email address (Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, Outlook.com, or any other email address).
When a recipient receives an encrypted message, they can either get a one-time passcode, sign in with a Microsoft account, or sign in with a work or school account associated with Office 365. Recipients can also send encrypted replies.
Some recommended uses:
- HIPAA compliance
- Legal confidentiality
- Sensitive financial data
- HR issues
- Confidential product information/development
To use this new feature, simply add the phrase (encrypt) anywhere in the subject of any email. Don’t forget to include the parenthesis!
A message that is encrypted by Office 365 Message Encryption is delivered to an external recipient’s inbox just like any other email message, but it contains an HTML file attachment.
After opening the attachment, the recipient can sign in or use a one-time passcode to view the message on the Office 365 Message Encryption portal. The attachment includes instructions for viewing the encrypted message, as in the following example (the attachment is highlighted):
TBC internal communications are automatically encrypted using TLS encryption and protected by the sender/recipients network username and password.
